I had in mind to give myself a year of practicing wheel throwing before I took the leap and got anything fired. Apparently I was a bit deluded, coz I just read it takes 2-4 years to become a proficient potter. I hope I have the stamina !

Like my Avocado tree for instance. I must have planted it 5 years ago? I kinda lost track but I've been waiting for the magic 7 years to see if it will fruit. I just read that Avocado trees grown from stone can take 15 years to fruit, if at all.

I'm ignoring that.
I still have my heart set on magic 7.

Anyway, the weather's cooled down... back into the garden I go!

PS. If you think my pottery looked alright... I was trying to make mugs!

My goodness our garden is a mess... it's been literally 4 months since I've touched it. And insead of gardening I sat down briefly and took these photos.

Also ironically, it's summer in New Zealand and I put these snowflakes on the windows for Christmas!

Catherine was Mary this year in the Sunday School play too.

And I'm still taking photos of my pottery, in all its lumpyness!

well, its STILL my birthday... but I couldnt wait till tomorrow to put these up. Look what I did today.

In order...

My first one. Was meant to be a bowl, but turned out as a plate...

Was more what I was going for but not quite...

This is the shape I was aiming for, but the bottom is actually scraped right away!

Haha... the BEST

Um... it's art people.

Ok... looks a bit like a bowl

Holy COW... it actually looks like a bowl

Um... frizby?

Ok... wish I could fluke that other bowl again..but it's all practice.

Happy birthday to me

Well, it's my birthday today, and I've politely told people who have text me wanting me to do stuff for them.. "sorry, not today, it's my birthday" :).
So Mum got me a 20kg pack of pottery clay, so I finally get to try out my wheel.
It was a lot of giggles at first I can tell you! I had it in mind that it would take about 3 months of practice to get "centering" correct, but of course I got excited straight away and wanted to try and make something.
Here's a wonky plate I just made. Pottery is hard. It was meant to be a bowl.
But it's my birthday and Im spending the day the way I want to, doing what I want.
And why not?
